{"id":127,"date":"2007-07-22T11:42:40","date_gmt":"2007-07-22T09:42:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/f-john.de\/detroit\/?p=127"},"modified":"2007-08-23T18:27:09","modified_gmt":"2007-08-23T16:27:09","slug":"127","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/f-john.de\/detroit\/?p=127","title":{"rendered":"The Detroit Archaeopterix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A landscape architect\u00b4s analysis of the area surrounding the Train Station which opens a very<br \/>\nnew perspective to the project.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<br \/>\n<em>Email &#8211; from Klaus Schroll (Berlin, Germany) <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Detroit (the city) is a dwindling industrial city<br \/>\n&#8211; Large vacant lots lay to waste and reruralise.<\/p>\n<p>Initial thoughts:<br \/>\n&#8211; Berlin 1980s: shrinking, reruralising, abandoned, (politically) tense.<br \/>\n&#8211; Wolfsburg (Volkswagen Autoproduction), regressive, auto oriented city development.<\/p>\n<p>What I did immediately.<br \/>\n&#8211; Studied the aerial photograph<br \/>\n&#8211; Printed out the aerial photograph<br \/>\n&#8211; Drew some abstractions (picture 1)<\/p>\n<p><a href='http:\/\/f-john.de\/detroit\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/sizze_1.jpg' title='sizze_1.jpg'><img src='http:\/\/f-john.de\/detroit\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/sizze_1.jpg' alt='sizze_1.jpg' \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Result 1<br \/>\n&#8211; I didn\u00b4t want to consider the fundamental typologies of the city\u00b4s traffic systems.<br \/>\n&#8211; Using the powers of my imagination I could see the shape of a fossil bird head in the urban imprints and highways.<\/p>\n<p>Archaeopterix<br \/>\n<a href='http:\/\/f-john.de\/detroit\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/bild_3_4.jpg' title='bild_3_4.jpg'><img src='http:\/\/f-john.de\/detroit\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/bild_3_4.jpg' alt='bild_3_4.jpg' \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Result 2<br \/>\n&#8211; Personally I would be more inclined to reconsider and redirect the decayed places than to occupy yourself with Industrial development in general.<br \/>\n&#8211; This train station looks like an Art Colosseum to me, with a gigantic backdrop.<br \/>\n&#8211; A park in front of\/as part of this backdrop, what a wonderful thought.<br \/>\nContents of such a park could be:<br \/>\n*Detroit historical tours<br \/>\n*Excursions to the MCS (Technical Natural science)<br \/>\n*Relationship between Humans and Nature as theme.<\/p>\n<p>Result 3<br \/>\nWith regard to the consolidation of a Park in front of the MCS there are no further pictures, but some scrappy thoughts.<br \/>\n-wild growth in raised and hollowed areas, plants triumph over the terrain.<br \/>\n-feral animals in the city: carnivores.<br \/>\n-Oozing, creeping, climbing: the layer underneath.<br \/>\n-Adventurecamp: freeclimbing in the MCS (with overnight accomodation)<br \/>\n-Illumination<br \/>\n-Radioplays: with the audio guide on tour.<br \/>\n-Timescope: A view to the future and into the past.<\/p>\n<p>Please encourage the student with the Park idea. She should continue to develop it.  The degeneration from city to uncontrolled natural living space is so exciting. The project &#8216;tempor&#228;re Garten&#8217; (Temporary Garden) occurs to me, where intervention with the city space is also at play.
